Tracey Spadafora - Encaustic Demonstration

Tracey is a professional artist with 25 years of experience in encaustic. She has worked as a paint maker, and then as a workshop instructor for the past 22 years, including at the International Encaustic Conference. The artist holds a BFA from Boston University, with a Major in Painting, and Minor in Art History In addition, she majored in Painting and earned an MFA at the State University of NY.

For the past 15 years, Tracey’s current bodies of work are DNA series. She uses DNA sequences as a base to provide visual patterning and symbolic references. Her “Evolve” series suggests relationships between humanity and the environment being continually in flux. The artist has been interviewed in various media, including “The Artist Magazine”, May 2014, August 2018; and “Boston Voyager Magazine”, August 2018. Tracy Spadafora maintains a Studio in Westborough, MA.

Fall height=Dave Drinon - Oil Painting

Dave has been a New Englander for his entire life. He enjoys painting New England seascapes and urban scenes. During the years when he was pursuing his career as a financial advisor, he always continued to be active in the arts. In 2008, Dave enrolled at NH Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. For four years he attended art classes nights and Saturdays. In 2012, he changed his life forever by becoming a full time artist. Since then, he became an Artist in Residence at the Whistler House in Lowell, and began to win honors and sell his work.

A few famous painters who have influenced the artist are John Singer Sargent, Edward Seago, Winslow Homer, Lucian Freud, JMW Turner, and Aldro Hibbard. Dave paints in a representational and expressionist style, either in his studio, or “en plein air” on the streets of Lowell, or at the ocean. Dave maintains a studio at Western Avenue Studios.

Red GeraniumsNita Casey - Pastels

Born and raised in France, Nita attended the famed Ecole des Beaux Arts in Orleans, France and the Ecole de Dessin in Paris. She has lived in Italy, Germany and Panama. Now she has lived in New England for over 25 years and devotes her life to painting and running “The Gingerbread Gallery” where she works and lives in Pepperell, MA. The prolific artist paints in many different media and loves them all. She primarily works in oils, pastels and watercolors for her own pleasure, as well as for commissions, and illustrations. After thirty years of private classes, she stopped teaching last year. Now, she enjoys her students’ accomplishments in the arts.

Nita has sold many of her paintings around the world. She maintains a studio at Western Avenue Studios where one can visit the artist and see some of her beautiful work at Open House the first Saturday of every month.

Mary Woodward - Illustrated Talk: The Impressionists

Woodward has been curator for the past 8 years of the Chelmsford Center for the Arts, and has lived in Chelmsford MA for 9 years. She also is the lead guide at the Gropius House in Lincoln MA. She has a B.A.in Art History from Furman University and a M.A. in Art History from Emory University. She has nearly 40 years of experience in museums of all shapes and sizes, from the comprehensive collection at the Cleveland Museum of Art to the one-room log cabin birthplace of President James K Polk. Mary thinks she will never tire of visiting all of the historic and cultural sights in New England!

Don Ouellette - Watercolor Painting

Don Ouellette, well known area artist will demonstrate watercolor painting at a Chelmsford Art Society meeting on Saturday, February 29, 2020, 2 pm at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts, 1A North Road, Chelmsford, MA. Ouellette’s father was his first watercolor teacher in 1975. He learned the basics and then continued to study with Jack Flynn, A.W.S., Carlton Plummer, A.W.S. and Murray Wentworth, N.A.

The artist’s work may be seen in collections at Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union in Lowell, Enterprise Bank in Lowell, and the Lowell Community Health Center. An award winning landscape watercolor painter, Don also paints in oil. The artist enjoys painting scenes of vanishing New England sites, which have special meaning in his life. His paintings usually begin with very rough sketches and are intended to capture a moment of tension. Ouellette is a member of the Lowell Art Association and the Whistler House Museum of Art.

Tom Gill - Acrylic Painting

Tom Gill was born in Lowell, MA. He was raised in Chelmsford, MA where he started painting at a young age. He had his fine art education at the Art Institute of Boston. Some artists that he admires include J.C. Leyen Decker, Norman Rockwell, and Anders Zorn, a Swedish artist.

Tom, who was also a rock musician in the 1980s, developed his own style of painting. He notes, “I feel like I’m making music when I’m painting - and that’s why there’s rhythm in my paintings.” The result is always loose and impressive with harmonious colors that interplay with light. Well known in this region, the artist is a member in the North Shore, Rockport, and Lowell Art Associations as well as Chelmsford Art Society.

The Enterprise Bank owns a number of Tom’s works, which are displayed in their 24 branch offices. “His paintings are the centerpiece in all of our branches and in some of our office spaces,” says founder and chairman of the Enterprise Bank, George Duncan. Tom also displays his paintings in the following hospitals: Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Boston; Holy Family in Methuen, MA; and the Lowell Community Health Center.
