2021 Shirley Lavoie Memorial Art Scholarship Winner

Learning to drive D Kong

Daryan Kong is the 2021 Shirley Lavoie Art Scholarship Winner. She is a Cambodian-American artist who resides in Lowell, MA. Born to a immigrant family in a city with one of the biggest Cambodian populations, the Khmer culture has always been  part of her life and art. Daryan’s work incorporates family dynamics, culture, and her own self. She primary uses acrylic paint but isn’t afraid to experiment with other medium from embroidery floss to digital art.

Attending Refuge Lowell for four years has greatly shaped her as an artist and person. This fall she plans to attend the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for fashion design.
