Submission Information
All 2D and 3D media welcome.* All art must have been completed in the past 4 years, not exhibited in previous Chelmsford Art Society shows, the subject matter suitable for general patrons and children, no larger than 44″ in any direction or heavier than 25lbs.
Small 3D work will be on display tables. Please provide a pedestal for a larger sculpture. Fiber Art should include a sleeve or other place for your hardware and be ready to hang.
*Artificial Intelligence Art is not accepted.

Liability: Neither the Art Society nor the Chelmsford Center for the Arts is responsible for the loss or damage to any work submitted for any cause. Submitting work will imply agreement on the part of the artist with this condition.

Adult Entries: Art must be framed and securely wired for hanging (sawtooth or clip frames cannot be accepted) More Information 

Student Entries If possible, please mat and/or frame your art. A mat and/or light simple frame will help us hang the show and keep your art safe.

Sales: Artists receive 75% and the Art Society receives a 25% all sales will be handled by the Art Society. The sales commission and the entry fees support this show and the overall work of the Chelmsford Art Society.

To be held in Vernon, CT May 21 – June 18, 2023 (Arts Center East, 709 Hartford Turnpike).

This organization was started in 1949 in response to the developing trend in the art world away from representational work. Each year, the association sponsors an exhibit “representing the finest of realism in art.” This year, out of 130 artists, two entries each, only 74 pieces of artwork were chosen. https://academicartistsassociation.org/

Rhode Island Watercolor Society’s Annual National Watermedia Show

To be held in Pawtucket RI, May 13 (Opening 1-3:00) to June 23, 2023 (831 Armistice Blvd).

 

Nan Quintin, “Shelved” (watercolor) This painting, “Shelved”, depicts one of Nan’s father’s old Jeep pickup trucks (a 1953 model) – it’s in storage and is being used as shelving for all sorts of things. It won an Honorable Mention at this show.

Esther Donlon, “Tropical Hibiscus” (watercolor)

Out of 214 submissions, only 71 paintings were accepted.

Helen Moriarty, a longtime member of the Chelmsford Art Society passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day May 14, 2023. She will be remembered for her many contributions to the CAS. Helen held the following positions on the CAS Board of Directors: President, Programs Coordinator, and / Publicity Coordinator. During her years of service she was twice winner of the Founder’s Award (1995-1996 and 2013-2014).
Helen was a graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education. She continued her education attaining a Master’s in Art from Boston University and from Northeastern University. Prior to her retirement, Helen was an Elementary School Teacher for the City of Lowell Public Schools for over 40 years.

You can see Helen’s love of art and her desire to inform others about it in her role of Program Coordinator. Helen brought professional artist demonstrators to the CAS monthly meetings to provide our members and guests with valuable information on a variety of painting and other artwork techniques. Helen also introduced the community to numerous artists and their various talents as she filmed the Chelmsford Art Society’s demonstrations, and they were then viewed by many on Chelmsford local television stations.

Helen’s wisdom and creative output were a large part of our July 4th events as she organized its many aspects, and was always happy to contribute wherever needed – from decorating for the event to selling tickets for our fundraising raffles.

We are grateful for her many years of service to the Chelmsford Art Society. Thank you Helen!

The Chelmsford Art Society is pleased to present photographer Mark Elson, at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts on April 12, 2023 at 7 PM.  Mark Elson is a Boston based fine art photographer who works in the wet plate collodion process, in addition to digital and film-based photography. The collodion process involves making tintypes and glass plates negatives exactly the way photographs were made in the Civil War.

What most people overlook is what Mark captures in his photography. A fleeting moment becomes a small-scale drama, a vignette that takes on deeper meaning as that moment is isolated and elevated. Suddenly the discounted scene becomes a story that evokes curiosity and wonder.  The camera is used to strip away the veneer to see the beauty in every day. Mark tells stories of misfits, dreamers, romantics, and the forgotten.
Mark is the photographer/author of the book “Battlefields of Honor, American Civil War Reenactors”  (Merrill Publishers). His work has appeared in print and on-line publications in View Camera, Black & White: For Collectors of Fine Photography, Huffington Post and Hallowed Ground.

The Chelmsford Art Society is pleased to present Brooke Lambert, an outstanding printmaker and artist who will be demonstrating her medium of collagraph printing at the CCA on March 15th at 7pm. She will explain her unique process of creating embossed paper prints from low relief inked plates, that invoke the textures of the sea and other natural environments. Brooke currently works out of Studios 447 at Western Avenue in Lowell, teaches classes and workshops in MA, NH, and ME, and exhibits.

• Artwork submissions are limited to 2 artworks per artist in the following media: Oil/acrylic, Water Media under Glass / Alcohol Ink, Pastel/Drawing, Mixed Media, Photography/Digital Arts, 3D (Sculpture, Metal, Glass)
• Artwork must have been completed in the past 4 years
• Artwork not exhibited in previous CAS shows
• Maximum dimension 44″ in any direction
• Subject matter suitable for general patrons & children
• Works on paper must be framed and covered with glass or Plexiglas. Frames must be in good condition. 
• Entries must be dry, properly prepared for exhibition and properly wired for hanging. The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung. 
• Gallery wrapped canvas does not require framing

CAS receives a 25% commission on all sales.

CAS will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any art work from any cause. Submitting work will imply agreement on the part of the artist with this condition.

 Nancy Lesofsky at the CCA café at 7 PM on Nov 9th, 2022
Nancy took Classical painting lessons began at 9 years of age. Her teacher Madame Thellen of Lowell Massachusetts. Studied age nine until age twelve.   She has had art shows at the Whistler House Museum in Lowell Massachusetts, through a juried selection. The museum is internationally recognized She has owned an art gallery on M Street in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington DC.
Recently awarded a medal in the very prestigious Art – Sciences – Lettres in Paris France.

In addition to her career as an artist, Nancy has been an award-winning International Interior Designer for 54 years and was selected to the prestigious Boston Junior League designers. She was also recently honored with a bronze medal from the International French Order of Arts-Sciences-Lattres in Paris, France. In October of 1992, she appeared for an interview on Channel 7News with journalist Sara Edwards as one of the top female entrepreneurs in the country.
