2025 High School
Scholarship Winner
Madison Koufos

Madison Koufos

2025 High School Scholarship Winner
Dracut High
School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University SMFA

We are excited to announce that Madison Koufos is the winner of our 2025 Scholarship! This amazing artist graduated Dracut High and is going to major in the Fine Arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.

Madison ~ Growing up autistic, I often struggled when it came to communicating and expressing myself conventionally with words. However when I started to doodle in my notebooks and eventually into sketchbooks, I discovered a new way to express myself.

In these little drawings, I could express my feelings at the time and the ideas that I had. And eventually, my connection to art would connect me to others who had felt the same. Art became more than just a hobby to me but rather a way to connect to the world when I couldn’t in any other way.

When I started, I couldn’t stop. I started to draw every single day to improve and to be able to express myself better. For a while, I taught a lot of these things to myself by using books and videos online. But eventually, I started to take art classes outside of school for a few years in middle school. Overtime, my passion in art moved past just drawing, but into other forms such as painting and ceramics and even other niches such as crochet and writing.

In my senior year of high school, I earned the title of Most Outstanding Artist in my school. My art was also accepted into Congresswoman Laurie Trahan’s Annual Art Show of the Congressional Institute’s Annual Art Competition and the U Mass Lowell Annual Regional Art Show.

I will be attending Tufts’ School of the Museum of Fine Arts with my first major focus into the arts. There, I’ll learn not only how to create but also to be able to create in a way that’ll be impactful for society.
Entering my next stage of life, I hope to forge a path that’ll benefit not just myself but the world around me. Whether it’s painting by painting or book by book, I want to not only create art but to create progress for the world.

We wish her wonderful success in her future in art.

Congratulations Madison!

Thank you Sarah Breault, Madison’s Art Teacher at Dracut High, for recommending that she apply!

2025 Collegiate Scholarship Winner
Herin Lee

Herin Lee

2025 Collegiate Scholarship Winner
Rhode Island School of Design
Graphic Design Major

During my first year, I completed Rhode Island School of Design’s Experimental and Foundational Studies, a year dedicated to improving technical skills in drawing and design, experimenting with new materials, and learning new concepts, expanding my horizons in the arts.

I have drawn inspiration from personal experiences and my cultural background as a female Asian American. At RISD I realized the abundance of other sources for inspiration, no matter how mundane or simple they may be. I now look to something as vast as the nature around us for new ideas as well as examining the smaller parts of a whole. I also consider concepts taught during the art history lectures for inspiration and new creative processes. This allows me to focus on the process itself, the materials and medium as my main source of inspiration, rather than the final product.

Herin created 10 Projects for  her First year Portfolio.

#7 “Mood Necklace” that changes form from a collarbone necklace to an exotic choker Video

#1 “Neighborhood in Portsmouth, RIa watercolor study on light, shadow, and perspective
#2 “Patterned Fabrican original pattern dyed using stencil printing with multiple plates for each color.
#3 “Blooming” a soft sculpture interpretation of a flower coral
#4 “Untitled” an anamorphic installation with multiple projectors*
#5 “The Idol” an amalgamation of multiple figures in charcoal
#6 “Sounds of the Earth” Drum bioplastic & visualize audio communication*
#8 “Seen Not Seen” a triptych of evocative scenes

#9 “Human Alphabet” a playful stop motion video*
#10 “Brace” a scuplture of an abstracted scoliosis brace

* See all the videos for these projects in her 2024-2025 Portfolio *

We can’t wait to see what she creates next.

Congratualtions Herin!

It is wonderful to continue to support this emerging artist.
Last year Herin won our 2024 High School Scholarship see her winning entry here.

Thank you Brenda Fredericks, Herin’s Art Teacher at Billerica High, for recommending that she apply!
